2020 Hell Arinto
Delinquente's Hell - experimental, super small batch, boundary pushing wines.
Arinto is a new variety to the winery this year - native to Portugal, its small berries contain delicious mix of fruit flavours, and most importantly, a piercing acidity that stands up to the hot climate of the Riverland. A really exciting time awaits with this little patch. The fruit for this wine was hand picked and immediately destemmed into one tonne open fermenters, where the wine fermented on skins until sugar dry – about 14 days. The wine was then pressed to a 1200L Slavonian oak cask, where it rested on full solids for 8 months, before being racked once prior to bottling. This wine sees no additions of any kind save for a small amount of SO2 at bottling.
A true orange wine, this is all about layers, complexity and energy. Citrus and stonefruit characters come forward, but the savoury backbone, tannin and ripping acidity give so much depth and structure to the wine. The Slavonian cask helps bring the wine together, the oak character complementing and balancing the intensity of the wine. Despite all this highwire stuff, the wine is eminently drinkable, and soars with hearty Mediterranean influenced food.
